For his highly anticipated Fall 2012 collection, Prabal Gurung gave us hell – then heaven. Dubbed “Uncursed” by Gurung himself, the collection was dark, dreamy and above all bewitching.

Gurung told the New York Times, “I was in pursuit of inventing something that was spiritual and exciting which made me look within. I realized we’re dealing with a duality, the dark side and the light. All of us have it. You have it, I have it. We all have that demons and angels aspect, and the collection is about learning to be comfortable with it. I opened the door to the dark side just a little bit, and there are a lot of things that happened when it came to designing. Besides that, I was inspired by the painting the “The Adoration of [the Mystic] Lamb” and the cow skull by Georgia O’Keefe. All of them have a spiritual connotation.”

From the wicked violets and azure blues to virtuous whiter-then-whites on gold, the color palate was electric throughout as it transitioned from dark to light. Ruffles, beading, gold lame, tulle, ostrich feathers and ethereal geometric prints embellished the one-of-a-kind looks. With these gleaming elements, sculpted capes, sheer paneled cocktail creations, neoprene trousers and organza flooded gowns shaped the sci-fi film meets grandeur collection which had the crowd starry-eyed.

The runway music was created by DJ Kris Bones, a pioneer of London’s pirate radio underground, who took Radiohead remixes and mixed them with avante garde works of electronic music to complement the romantically abtruse designs. I was particularly taken with Zed’s Dead’s remix of “Massive Attack” by Paradise Circus and the closing number (not including the finale track) Etoile Polaire (Gigamesh remix) by Philip Glass a.k.a The Godfather of Trance. Watch my video of the finale below!

1. “Lotus Flower (SBTRKT remix) by Radiohead

3. “The Here and After” by Jun Miyake
