Last Spring, designer Michelle Smith was influenced by Peggy Guggenheim, a women famous for her immense art collection and assortment of statement sunnies. This season, Smith cites her inspiration as being another art connoisseur, French artist Sonia Delaunay. Given the designer’s tendency towards bold colors and prints for her ready-to-wear designs, Delaunay makes perfect sense as a muse given her bright hued and textiled artwork .The runway’s background facade even features a wall of geometric abstraction which seemed as if it could have been extracted from one of Delaunay’s early 19th century canvases!

Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay
The color palate predominantly featured cherry red, burnt orange, royal blue, and stark white combinations which appeared in the color block trends and vibrant prints. To play down the rich colors and patterns, sleek A-line dresses, white button downs, chic jackets, pencil skirts, and tailored cigarette slacks were heavily incorporated in the mix. The silhouettes were a cross between modern and vintage, with old-fashioned styles cut for the modern women of today. Not atypical for a Milly presentation, every look was layered and accessorized with silk neck scarves, patterned belts, retro sunglasses, or lovely sunhats. Also featured was the brand’s young handbag line which boasted a variation of shapes and styles, from the over-sized clutches to structured totes. All in all. the collection as a whole was an uptown girl’s dream come true, but this not to say that the designs wouldn’t be a beautiful edition to any women’s wardrobe!
Creating a vibrant runway mix was prominent music stylist, DJ Laurent Vaucher, who was kind enough to give me track list. The runway songs, for a large portion of the show, were characterized by disco-electro pop from France, with tracks such as “Cliché” by The Shoes and two different remixed versions of “Saké” by Jupiter. However, my favorite runway track was definitely “X Girl” by Teenage Bad Girl featuring dance-inducing artist Rye Rye!
