I first came into contact with the fabulous New York based designer Deryck Todd via the New York Fashion Week Documentary, for which he was both the production coordinator and music director. As a man who wears many hats (pun intended), Todd channels his glittery imagination as a lavish hat and accessories designer. Having lusted after his creations, which appear in designer boutiques such as that of the legendary Patricia Field, I was delighted to receive an invitation to his Fashion Presentation and launch of DeryckTodd.com, hosted by the House of Field.
Taking place at the ever-evolving Christopher Henry Gallery, which happens to be a renovated church in downtown NYC, the launch was a party from beginning to end. Setting the vibrant sounds for the night was DJ Carrie Whitenoise, as party-goers sipped wine and drooled over Todd’s latest headpieces and accessories. The collection featured hats, t-shirts, and even helmuts meticulously adorned from top to bottom. Spikes, chains, crystals, and feathers were the design’s essentials. T-shirts donning hilarious catch-phrases such as “Boobs & Loubs” and “Cash Not Cache” were in line with the collections, whose them seemed to be dramatic with a marvelous sense of humor. My favorite design was undoubtedly the dazzling biker helmut!
